Privacy Policy

Sunbeam is an answer layer for your website: you give us a URL, we read the pages you publish, and we answer your visitors' questions from your own content. This policy explains what data that involves, why we hold it, and who helps us process it.

Who this covers

This policy applies to Sunbeam (“Sunbeam,” “we,” “us”) and to two groups of people: the customers who create an account and connect a site, and the visitors who ask questions through a Sunbeam widget on a customer's website. Where a customer installs Sunbeam on their site, that customer is the controller of their visitors' questions and Sunbeam processes them on the customer's behalf.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your name and email address, handled through our authentication provider (Clerk) when you sign up and sign in. We do not store your password ourselves.
  • Payment information. Billing is handled by Stripe. Your card details are collected and stored by Stripe, not by Sunbeam; we retain only the subscription and billing metadata Stripe returns to us (plan, status, invoices, and a payment-method reference).
  • Site content you connect. When you add a site, Sunbeam crawls the public pages at the URL you provide and stores their text so it can be retrieved to answer questions. We read what your site already publishes to the web; we do not log into private areas of your site.
  • Visitor questions. The questions asked through your widget and the answers Sunbeam returns, so the product can answer, improve retrieval, and show you the gaps where it had no grounded answer.
  • Operational logs. Standard technical records — request timestamps, error traces, and usage counts needed to run the service, meter conversations, and keep it secure.

How we use it

  • To read your site and answer your visitors' questions from your own content, with a link back to the page each answer came from.
  • To create and secure your account, and to authenticate you when you sign in.
  • To run billing — start your trial, charge your plan, and meter usage, including conversations past your plan's limit at the published overage rate.
  • To operate, monitor, debug, and improve the service, and to surface the questions Sunbeam could not answer so you can close the gaps.
  • To send service and account email, and to reply when you contact support.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your site content or your visitors' questions to train shared, cross-customer models.

Third-party processors

Sunbeam runs on a small set of infrastructure providers. Each processes data only to provide their part of the service:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management.
  • Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
  • Google Vertex AI — the AI models that generate answers and the embeddings used to retrieve the right passage from your content.
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
  • Neon — the managed Postgres database where accounts, indexed content, and usage records are stored.

Data retention

We keep your account details, connected site content, and billing records for as long as your account is active. Indexed content is refreshed as we re-crawl your site, and superseded content is replaced. When you delete a site or close your account, we remove the associated site content and visitor questions from our active systems within 30 days, except where we must retain limited billing records to meet legal and accounting obligations. You can ask us to delete your data at any time using the contact below.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is limited to what is needed to run the service, and payment card data never touches Sunbeam's own servers — it is handled directly by Stripe. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data in line with the sensitivity of what we hold.

Your choices

You can access or update your account details, export or delete your connected site content, and close your account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us and we will respond.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page, and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
